Extra Shapes (2015)

DD Dorvillier, human future dance corps

Extra Shapes (2015) is a dance event, a musical concert, and a light show, created in collaboration with choreographer DD Dorvillier, composer Sébastien Roux, lighting designer Thomas Dunn, and the dancers Walter Dundervill, and Katerina AndreouExtra Shapes plays with the affinities and antipathies between sound, light, and moving bodies, in the realm of the dance stage and its spectacle, proposing a means of making sense out of the experience of accumulating perceptions.

Featuring separate and simultaneous scores for dancers, loudspeakers, and lights, Extra Shapes occupies a rectangular space divided into three stripes of equal length and depth, like a slice of Neopolitan ice cream. A 17 minute sequence is repeated three times. After each iteration the audience moves to a new side of the rectangle, experiencing very different perspectives of the same piece. It's this changing audience perspective that completes the piece.
